What Does the Constable Program Provide?

80 Hours of Dedicated Patrol Each Week

With neighborhood funding, Shepherd Park Plaza and Candlelight Plaza receive two Harris County Precinct 1 Deputy Constables, each contracted for 40 hours per week.

That provides a combined 80 hours of dedicated neighborhood coverage every week.

During contracted hours, these deputies are assigned to our neighborhoods rather than relying solely on normal county or city law-enforcement response.

Rapid Response

When our contracted Constables are on duty, the program has historically provided an average response time of approximately five minutes.

Having deputies assigned to our neighborhoods means help may already be nearby when a resident needs it.

Proactive Patrol

The Constables do more than respond to calls.

During their contracted hours, deputies patrol throughout Shepherd Park Plaza and Candlelight Plaza, providing an additional visible law-enforcement presence and monitoring activity throughout the neighborhoods.

Vacation Watch

Going out of town?

SPP residents can request a Vacation Watch through the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office.

While you are away, deputies can include your home as part of their patrol activity.

You may never personally call the Constables—and we hope you never need to.

But the value of the program extends beyond individual calls for service.

 

Your Constable dues help provide:

• Dedicated patrol hours in our neighborhood

• A visible law-enforcement presence

• Faster response when a neighbor does need assistance

• Proactive patrol activity

• Vacation watches

• Additional neighborhood security

 

Think of the program as a shared neighborhood service. Its value is not only there when you make a call; it is also in having dedicated law enforcement already assigned to our community.

Our deputies cover Shepherd Park Plaza and Candlelight Plaza throughout their contracted shifts.

At any given time, they may be:

• Patrolling another street or section of the neighborhood

• Responding to a resident call

• Conducting a vacation watch

• Investigating suspicious activity

• Completing another law-enforcement task within the contract area

 

A patrol vehicle will not be visible on every street at every moment.

The purpose of the program is to maintain dedicated law-enforcement coverage throughout the contracted area, so deputies are nearby and available when they are needed.

The Program Depends on Resident Support

 

Your Dues Fund Patrol Hours

The Constable Program is not automatically provided to our neighborhood.

We contract and pay for this additional coverage through annual Constable dues.

That means the amount of coverage we can provide is directly connected to the support we receive from neighbors.

​

If funding decreases, coverage must decrease.

Maintaining our current Constable presence requires broad neighborhood participation.

When you pay your $350 annual Constable dues, you are helping maintain the dedicated patrol coverage available to Shepherd Park Plaza.

Neighborhood Security Is a Shared Investment

 

Approximately 750 households make up Shepherd Park Plaza.

​

The Constable Program benefits the neighborhood as a whole, but it can only operate at its current level when neighbors help fund it.

​

For less than $1 per day, your annual $350 contribution helps provide dedicated law-enforcement coverage throughout the year.
